JW Bell sells, builds and services aggregate processing equipment from Cedar Rapids, IA, with a second location in Altoona. James W. Bell started the business in 1923 as a sales representative for Iowa Manufacturing’s crushing equipment. It began modifying crushing plants in the early 1990s and was building custom equipment by 1997. Scott Cummings, a long-time employee, bought it in 2014, when the company was consolidated and renamed from James W Bell Co., Inc.
The Cedar Rapids operation covers 178,000 square feet on 24 acres and runs 35 cranes, three of them 50 ton overheads, along with CNC press brakes, plasma cutting, shot blast and paint booths. Work spans new mobile plants, stationary crushing circuits, plant retrofits, conveyors, line boring, machine shop jobs and field service. The company also carries Sandvik rock drills and Hardox wearparts, and it rents equipment.
